Our Story
Duration Concrete Coatings was founded in 2012 by Dan Diven — a concrete professional who spent years working inside a large corporate coatings company and saw the same problem repeated: customers were paying premium prices but getting crews who cut corners on surface preparation, used inconsistent materials, and had no stake in the long-term outcome.
A Need for Honest Work Dan left the corporate coatings world with a straightforward mission: build a local company where the owner is on-site, the materials are consistent, and the price is fair. Duration was built on that promise from day one.
The Duralast® Connection Dan teamed up with a partner who had been distributing Duralast® chemicals locally — and had grown that operation to supply over 70 other coating companies nationwide. That supply-chain depth, combined with 20+ years in the concrete and coatings industry, became the foundation Duration was built on.
Why Duralast® — Not Just Any System Choosing a coating system is a business decision. The founders chose Duralast® for the same reason they recommend it to customers: it’s honest, affordable, and backed by chemistry that genuinely outperforms standard epoxy — not just on paper, but across thousands of real installations in Fort Wayne’s freeze-thaw climate.
20+ Years of Industry Experience Between Dan and his founding partner, Duration’s leadership brings over two decades of hands-on experience in concrete preparation, coating chemistry, and project management — from single-car garages to large commercial facilities like Spiece Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne.
Leadership — Dan Diven
Dan came from a large corporate coatings company where he trained extensively in diamond grinding, crack repair, basecoat chemistry, and polyaspartic topcoat application. He founded Duration in 2012 because he believed the Fort Wayne market deserved a locally owned, accountable alternative — an owner-operated company where the person quoting the job is the same person overseeing the install.
Dan is present on-site for every project Duration completes. Customers consistently cite this in reviews — Dan shows up early, communicates clearly, and stays until the floor is right. His Duralast® contractor certification requires demonstrated proficiency across the full 6-step installation process, and is issued to a limited number of operators nationally.

6-Step Process
Diamond Grinding
Industrial diamond pads open the concrete surface for maximum coating adhesion. The step most DIY kits and cut-rate contractors skip.
Concrete Reconstruction
Cracks, spalling, and surface defects are filled with professional-grade concrete mender before any coating is applied.
Polyurea Basecoat
The first coating layer bonds directly to the prepared concrete. Polyurea — not epoxy — gives the system its core tensile strength.
Vinyl Chip Broadcast
Decorative vinyl chips are hand-broadcast across the wet basecoat, creating the color pattern, depth, and texture of the finished floor.
Chip Removal
Loose chips are scraped away, leaving raised edges that increase surface grip and add natural slip resistance.
Polyaspartic Topcoat
A UV-stable polyaspartic clear coat seals the surface. Resists yellowing from sunlight permanently.
Duralast® vs. Standard Epoxy (Comparison Table)

| UV Stability | Does not yellow | Yellows with sun exposure |
| Freeze-Thaw Flexibility | Resists seasonal cracking | Brittle in temperature swings |
| Chemical Resistance | High — oils, salts, chlorine, cleaners | Moderate |
| Residential Warranty | Lifetime | Varies — typically 1–5 years |

Notable Commercial Project — Spiece Fieldhouse: Duration has completed work at Spiece Fieldhouse — one of Fort Wayne’s most recognized sports and recreation facilities. Commercial installations like this require precision scheduling, enhanced chemical resistance formulations, and coordination around active facility use. The same Duralast® system used in residential garages scales to handle the demands of high-traffic public spaces.
